Climate transition

Targets will drive our transition

We recognise the criticality of reducing carbon emissions in response to the climate crisis and to ensure we remain a resilient manufacturer for our customers, colleagues, shareholders, and the communities we serve.

We believe targets drive action. That is why we have committed to science-based targets for scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions, which cover our operations, supply chain and our product portfolio.

Operating sustainably

To meet the science-based target for our operations (Scope 1 & 2 emissions) we will need to focus on improvements in energy efficiency in all locations and reduce our kWh/Tonne over the next 10 years. This will involve all site colleagues working together and sharing best practice on their energy reduction plans. For Scope 3 emission reduction, waste management will continue to be a focus in our operations and working with our component suppliers.

Approach to energy

Each location has an energy efficiency target of which we report on annually. Many locations have electricity monitoring software and sensors to support the delivery of our targets and to identify energy hot spots. In terms of green electricity, we have a target to procure up to 100% by 2033.

Approach to waste

Our locations have been reducing waste year on year and we have a target of Zero waste to landfill by the end of 2025. The locations are not only actively reducing waste but working with local authorities to find alternative pathways for waste management.

How we are progressing

Our operations making great progress on energy monitoring, understanding our energy hot spots and continuing to focus on waste. In addition we are in the process of engaging with our top 70 suppliers of chemicals and packaging who contribute to 80% of our Scope 3 emissions to understand their reduction emission plans. Our product development teams are continuing to driving new product developments that can deliver lower emissions than the products they replace. This combination of supplier engagement and new product development are the winning combination to our near-term science-based target delivery.

Supply chain

In terms of our overall supply chain emissions, these have been reduced by 2.4% and an overall 1.6% reduction in Scope 3 emissions from FY21 to FY23.

Operations

Currently 58% of our electricity is coming from renewable sources, including self-generation from our Belgium plants.

Product

We have made tremendous progress on reducing virgin plastic and for our PET packaging 60% by weight of plastic is now sourced from recycled content.

PET packaging

Did you know that 60% of all the PET plastic we buy comes from recycled content (PCR).

We have been working with our suppliers and customers year on year to increase the recycled content in our PET packaging and offer a range of recycled content options to customers ranging from 50% to 100%.

Animal pollination

Did you know that Bees and other pollinators play a vital role in biodiversity and almost 90% of wild plants and 75% of leading global crops depend on animal pollination.

As part of our drive to lower our impact on the environment and support our local ecosystems, we’re playing our part in helping our flying friends to thrive. 240,000 bees and 3 hives call our Aerosol site in Rosporden, France home, where they are closely monitored by our external service provider BEECITY.
